Why is spring clear out important?

Hello! It is the last day of 4 day weekend and so called ‘Sunday’ blues have kicked in. But never mind, it’s not the next morning just yet and there’s still time for some blogging, bath, cup of tea and maybe (just maybe) more chocolate.

First of all, I would like to introduce you to the new ‘Fashion corner’ of my blog.

My blog is called Mari Talks Beauty and I want it to stay 85% – 90% beauty. I don’t want to start writing about everything else (believe me I could) but I have been thinking about ‘Fashion corner’ for a while and today I have a done a spring clear out of my wardrobe and feel it is a great opportunity to share my thoughts on it with you and add my first post to the fashion corner. I hope you enjoy!

I am the complete opposite of a hoarder and I am proud of it. I love shopping and I buy new things all the time but I recycle/uplycle/give to friends/sell on ebay etc. ALL THE TIME. I don’t like keeping things and rarely get attached to them. I think this partially comes from moving quite a bit. I moved to London and then into university halls when I was just 18 and have been moving / travelling ever since, and theretofore constantly getting rid of stuff to be able to pack it into a few suitcases. Moving teaches you not to hoard, trust me. I am settled in my flat now but ‘not hoarding’ is still a thing for me. I know I will move again one day and I don’t want to have 100s of bags and boxes, I also like things neat and tidy and hoarding doesn’t go with neat and tidy. And most importantly – clear outs are healthy for your mind and body. Getting rid of physical things and putting them in order reflects on our mind greatly and not only we have more space for new clothes and shoes but we also have more room for new thoughts and ideas.

I give some stuff to charity shops or friends but I also do an ebay sale every 3-4 months to raise money for new things. It sounds very responsible, you might think. Well it is, however I am always nothing but honest with you so I will of course confess that I spend more than I’ve raised. But it’s the thought that counts and every little does help! It’s al about happy mind again here because knowing that you have made some space, made some money and worked for it makes you feel less guilty and more rewarded when the new things are brought home in those cute shopping bags.

Today, I listed 15 items on ebay and my trick is to list them for around £0.99 because that way a) buyer can’t really complain if it’s not in tip-top condition (it started at £0.99 after all!) as many items have been worn and b) people are more likely to bid when starting price is low so I make £10 per item on average which is more than I ever hope to get! I am honest about items and anything that has seen better days goes to charity shop, items that don’t sell also go to charity shop. Sometimes I will sell some unopened make up / skincare because I can’t use everything on my skin and even though I may have received it for free with a purchase or in goodie bag / beauty box I don’t think selling it is cheating, everyone does it and that’s what ebay is for.
